The Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) 2022 will be held at Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) Hall 1 from October 13 to 15, 2022. Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Academia Sinica, Ministry of Education (MOE), and the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW); the Future Tech (FUTEX) Pavilion will be one of the main highlights. The pavilion will showcase innovations and research achievements in science and technology developed by the participating teams. The onsite event will also host international forums, technical demonstrations/ presentations, direct business matching, and other promotional events.

The First TIE Award Focuses on Promoting International Cooperation in Innovative Applications

To foster international cooperation in promoting innovative applications of semiconductors in cutting-edge technologies, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) organized the first ever Tech Innovation Excellence Award (TIE Award). The award will focus on semiconductor applications in 7 main categories: AI & AIoT, Sensors, Efficient energy conservation, communications/ satellite, Smart manufacturing, Autonomous vehicles, and New energy, as well as other relevant categories.

In a report by the market research firm Trendforce, Taiwan accounts for 26% of the market share of semiconductor revenue in 2021. Taiwan’s IC design and packaging & testing industries also account for a 27% and 20% global market share, ranking second and first in the world, respectively.

Cooperation with Taiwan’s semiconductor companies is a great competitive advantage for international startups, research teams, and companies. To help support this global partnership; the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA), SEMI, Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI), and other industry associations will join the judging panel.

Participants will go through 2 review phases and 10 winners will be selected by the judges. Innovations from the winning teams will be featured in the FUTEX pavilion and will be able to meet, network, and match with Taiwan’s semiconductor companies to develop partnerships or other forms of business cooperation.

TIE Award Winners will Receive Cash Prizes & Promotion Resources

The TIE Award will feature a prize pool worth up to USD 109,000 for the top 10 winners: USD 30,000 for the 1st prize winner; USD 20,000 for the second prize winner; USD 10,000 for the third prize winner; and USD 7,000 for 7 special award winners each. The participants’ solutions will be judged based on 3 main criteria: value creation, local integration, and application innovation. The judging panel will consist of international VCs and semiconductor industry representatives.

In addition to the cash prize, winners will also be given non monetary rewards and marketing & promotion resources such as an onsite booth in TIE Expo, online promotion efforts, as well as opportunities to meet, network, and match with Taiwan’s semiconductor companies.

Winners will also receive various resources to grow their businesses and establish a presence in Taiwan. This includes discounts for Taiwan Startups coworking spaces as well as platform specific resources from TSRI for IC prototyping.
